The white stuff left some visible 'shadows' on some paint jobs. Also it leaves tacky residue on some paint jobs.

I therefore only use the blue variant for masking. No trouble at all so far.

For the "shadows" (meaning solid paint coverage, with a band of very thin paint coverage around the edge?)...it's important to either... A. Keep your spray angle the same, throughout (so you don't get the overspray under the curved edge of the putty)....B. Press the edges of the putty down, so that there is NO rounded edge for overspray to creep under.

For the tacky residue (have only had the problem with new putty)...I just roll a ball of putty over any residue and/or left over putty that got stuck. Pulls it right up!

Ah yes, those! I get that all the time still. I don't really pay them any mind anymore, as the clear coats knock the "shadows" right out.

It is frightening to see such shadows when pulling the masks off. Will have to try the "clear cote" trick!
