1/48 X-Wing Pilot.

Post by speedgraflex »

Good evening. I spent a frustrating couple of hours, searching for a replacement pilot figure for the MPC 1/48 X-Wing... and I got nothing to show for the hour except a handful of reference photos. So. I need your expertise. Please.

Original Studio Scale Pilot Figure (1/24 Airfix Harrier VTOL pilot) with a "re-sculpted" helmet based on a sketch by illustrator Joe Johnston...

This is a great "re-sculpt" of the Studio Scale Pilot Figure...

Does anyone know where I can source a decent pilot along these lines or perhaps have a pilot figure in their spares box for me? I am currently looking at a Soviet pilot with injector seat in 1/48 as a possibility, but you folks know things... you know kits and pilot figures. So, please and thank you in advance for any assistance.

I remain your humble servant.

Have a look at some of the Hasegawa USAF/USN pilot figure sets and see if one may work. I have several Monogram modern pilot figures in my spares, but they will need work... the harness and vest is nothing like the movie stuff... plus they have on the oxygen masks...

Thanks, Carlos! I will definitely check out the Hase figures based on your rec! I started thinking if I go wardrobe accurate not ILM accurate all I need is the Bandai 1/48 X-Wing kit. How much are those??? There are two figures. Use the standing figure for the MPC and keep the seated Skywalker for the Bandai! Lol. I need a drink.

Well, the Bandai 1/48 x-wings aren't exactly cheap. It's too bad that Hobby Lobby is only carrying the 1/72 x-wings last time I checked. Otherwise you could get one at 40% off...

Oh well...

had the very same problem when I did my 1/50ish SnowSpeeder and had to rebuild figures too. A cheaper solution would be a Moebius/Revell Viper pilot. Especially the helmet goes in that direction:

Please note that the actual kit is 1/32, as far as I remember the figure is pretty small nevertheless. The joystick is molded together with his hands - looks a bit goofy.

:D
