Masking low viz F 15A/C

I know somebody here has built a low viz F 15. How did you mask it? Did you paint the dark grey first and then make templates for the lighter grey? This seemed to me to be the easiest way using frisket or bulk Eduard masking paper. Is here a better, easier way? Advice appreciated.

I have built one F-15. IDF in the original ghost grays scheme. I did mine freehand using Polly S paints long ago. Light Ghost Gray first, then Dark Ghost Gray, followed by touch ups.

For the F-15 I would freehand airbrush.

But if you want to mask: Tamiya masking tape is nice. A cheaper option is Kips 808 or 802 masking tape. (at least here in Europe)

Thanks for the input. I will have to mask as I don't have an airbrush. Tamiya now has the two colors for the low viz in rattle cans. Stik yours looks great.

Thank you sir. Well since you are stuck with rattle cans, masking does indeed sound like a necessity. And due the patter of colors on the Eagle, I would indeed suggest painting the Dark Ghost Gray first, mask off the proper areas, then spray on the Light Ghost Gray. One other option for masking material I would suggest is Silly Putty. Inexpensive and reusable.

I think I may try Microscale Micro Mask around the borders of the large areas and fill with masking tape.

I do 95% of my camo schemes freehand. Those that I do mask is usually with Tamiya tape, or Parafilm M, after all my experiences with other materials. I only recently added Silly Putty to my bag of tricks.

I found some reasonably priced Parafilm M on ebay. They sell 4 inch wide by 1, 2, and 5 meter lengths. I ordered a 4inch by 1 meter for $3.70 with free shipping. Yes indeed, you do stretch the stuff. It's quite simple to use. Cut a length off of the roll, remove the backing paper, stretch it, then apply to where you want to mask, and cut or trim as needed. Make sure that your using a sharp new blade for the cutting/trimming.
