Desert Island Builds

Hi Gents and Lady,

Have any of you every heard desert island disc’s on BBC’s Radio 4? No..? Ok then I’ll tell you what it’s about – The presenter interviews a person each week (a celebrity, author, politician or scientist etc.) about their life and during this interview they play a selection of songs that have meant something to the interviewee over the course of their life – and if they had to be put on a desert island for a year they’d want to take with them.
They then have to pick their favourite, and a book (they already have the Bible and the complete works of Shakespeare), and a luxury item to take with them (they’re not allowed a boat, a helicopter etc. or anything else that would help them escape).
I thought it would be fun to apply this to us Modellers.

So assuming that you are going to be sent away to a desert island for 6 months – what are the 5 models that have meant to most to you over your life that you’d like to take with you? And which would be your favourite?

And rather than books we’ll assume you’ll be sent with a full Tamiya modelling tool set with the paint brand of your choice – what would be the one tool you’d take with you, and what would be your luxury item?

As an example - here's mine

The 5 kits I’d take with me are:

The old tool Airfix 1/72 Hawker Typhoon – This was the first kit I built when I was a kid.
The Matchbox 1/72 F-5B – This is only kit I can actually remember my mother buying me – after a rather harrowing visit to the doctors when I was about 8. It’s one of the few good memories I have of her.
The Matchbox 1/72 E.E. Lightning T.55 – This was the first kit I converted when I was a kid.
The Tamiya 1/48 P-51D Lightning - A beautiful kit, I’ve only ever made one and it was for my wife. She has it sitting next to her Jewellery box in our bedroom.
The Airfix 1/24 Harrier GR.3 - I have sitting in my Garage. It’s the only kit I’ve ever been given since I re-started in the hobby that I didn’t ask for – at least now I’d finally be able to finish it.

My favourite from all of those would be the P-51D – I’d like to be able to spend some time doing a proper job of it.

My tool to take with me would be my portable bench – then I could take it around the island with me and model where I liked.I could also empty it and use it as a plate, a chopping board, a hat and a floatation device.

My luxury item would be my DSLR (including a 3000mile long cable to plug the charger in)

Interesting......Hmmm.
Kits:
Monogram DC-3/C-47/AC-47 - any one of these.
Monogram Phantom Mustang - no reason, other than it would be fun
Italeri 1/48 C-130 - probably use it to fly out with
Minicraft PBM Mariner - Have to start it sometime
Italeri C-119 - because? Why not?

Tool?

My Exact-o Knives.

Luxury Item? Hmmm, I guess I'd go with my Camera, too. But rather than the extension cord, I'd go for a solar charger.

Climate controlled hut powered by solar for electricity with large cutting board as my workstation.

If it is a deserted Island I have plenty of time so I think I would build a larger scale then I useally do:

Trumpeter 1/32 MiG-3
Meng 1/32 Me-163
Legato 1/32 Avia B-35
Special Hobby 1/32 Polikarpov I-16 (only kit on this list I actually have in my stash)
Wingnut 1/32 Felixstowe


Come to think of it, that does not anwser the original question "what are the 5 models that have meant to most to you over your life that you’d like to take with you? And which would be your favourite? "

Second try:
Academy 1/72 Me-163: I just love that plane, love that kit and I think I will build a lot more of those
1/144 B-17G: I do not know the manufacturer but I had one as a kid, build it "together"with my grandfather using UHU tube glue. I wrecked it... So I need a new one (I still have two other very early builds)
Revell 1/48 B-1: I have it in the stash, a present of my mother. But where to put such a beast? Plenty of space on a deserted Island!
Special Hobby FMA Pucara: I have it in the stash, the last present my late grandpartents gave when they where both alive.
Monogram 1/72 B-52: another coveted treasure I had when I was a kid. I remember getting it for my birthday. It hung from the ceiling in al its unpainted glory for years.

I think I need be stranded for more then 6 months to build all these.

Luxury items: a nice glass display cabinet.
