I wasn't sure if it was the same kit or not. Nevertheless, it's still expensive. WnW will no doubt surpass HK's pricing. I wouldn't be surprised if it priced for $500 plus.

WnW is stretching the boundaries of model making. Maybe Bandai is on par, but with a slightly different approach.

Lol! Yup! But I’ll need a new home to display such a beast. I’m holding off on my 1/48 B-29 and B-1 for now due to lack of display space...

Kari and BlackSheep Tom, I agree with you about the pricing for the kit; like you, I feel the final cost will be high. This makes me wonder if there is something about a high cost kit that is not considered cost effective—I’ve spent quite a bit of quid making my way through an old 1/32 Hase Mustang—but the Wingnutters I own are quite buildable as they are with the exceptions of glue, rigging and paint. So... yes this is a beast but it’s a beautiful self contained one if the other Wingnut kits are any indication.

Carlos is wise—I don’t know what the status of Dam Busters is, but Peter Jackson just did a lot of R&D. The CAD designs look like interpretations of VFX elements. Smart man.

Torben, often I wish you built 1/32 aircraft. Some day I would like to ask why specific scales are chosen... but it was brought to my attention that a chosen scale for a modeler is not simply an honorific but a singularity. One might as well blame a compass for pointing north as question a chosen scale. I do feel there are exceptions (or I’m following a long, lonely road), but I find 1/32 to be comfortable for me but not always as full of component choices as 1/48... and what about 1/24? There’s definitely a large scale movement afoot with cars. I wonder if aircraft will be next? Your banker sounds a smart man to me!

Bruce, there are a number of 1/24 aircraft kits available. Older (and a few new fantastic ones) by Airfix, and some fairly recent ones by Trumpeter. But yes it is a market that has barely been touched.

My understanding of Peter Jackson’s Dambusters remake is that is supposedly up next after he finishes current commitments. At least that is what I read last summer when I was researching upcoming WWII films.

As far as why who builds what scale, I can understand the attractions listed by the advocates for each scale. It’s veey much a personal choice.

I'm an aircraft builder in first place and I'm very much tempted by the big scale. When I came back to the hobby I played around with a bunch of kits in all kind of scales. When I made the decision that I want to step into that modeling thing on a higher level I had a vision of building a collection of model airplanes in one scale. I wanted them to be compareble to each other, because one thing that fascinates me about planes is there variability in size.
So I did a lot of research. Which scale has the most diversity and the most esoteric, fancy stuff? 1/72, for sure. Which scale offers the most potential in details and overall realizm? 1/32 and bigger, we know that. And then there's the scale that's, in my opinion, the compromise between the advantages of the before mentioned scales. So I started my first serious build and my collection in 1/48. Eight years since then and I'm perfectly okay with it. How I quench my thirst for bigger parts, more details? I switched to armor in 1/35 and try out new techniques on that field. It's a way that works for me but of course it hurts sometimes. Especially when I take a look at those WnW kits that are blinkin' at me like a styrene made Gal Gadot. But hey, I'm a tough guy -lol!
