Well I don't have any pics of the models I did as a kid. But when I got back into the hobby I built the Italeri 1/48 MV-22 Osprey. Not bad for my first kit after getting back into the hobby.

Thanks guys! I think it was around 2009/10? I entered the Osprey into the model show in 2011.

I received this from my mother for Christmas while stationed in Hawaii back in 88. I was single at the time and was the only gift I received that year. I had duty at the Communications Station Honolulu transmitter site on Christmas eve, returned home Christmas morning, opened it, then went to the beach.
After I returned form my "Christmas celebration", I think I cooked up a frozen turkey dinner and then started on it. I was seriously into miniature wargaming at the time so I had all the paint and tools including an airbrush.
It will be the last build that I possess before it goes. Believe it or not, my first ship since I was a kid. I couldn't think of anything to use for rigging. The planes and catapults have since flew the cope. It has moved at least 8 times since then and it's been in several storage's, so that's pretty good.

I needed to read this... just to get outta my own head and enjoy the experience of being somewhere I have never been building a model kit I have never built and getting so much out of the experience itself. Thank you Bruce my friend. It was actually a very lonely time for me. My first wife had left me for submariner just a year before. My apartment didn't have any furniture except on old kitchen table, a mix of 2 dinning chairs, 2 stools for the kitchen bar area, where I built my miniatures and that kit, and a small TV with no cable. I was on the 11th floor of an apartment building which didn't have any curtains and I couldn't afford any. My bed was an air mattress which believe it or not, I put in the walk-in closet so it would be dark enough to I slept, there's a lot of light in Honolulu at night. The Christmas tree was one of those Charley Brown trees, but one of my favorite Christmas' because someone remembered me.

Steve, I read your reply earlier, which reminded me of the importance we have as a community and as a family to be of service to others. (Actually your description of your apartment sounds fairly close to mine.) I was thinking of my buddy Brick who was separated from his wife and living in a garage while reading your story—we put together a Murphy Bed for him because space was at a premium. Mainly I was thinking of the nature of sadness and loneliness and how giving a gift is so important. Your additional context made her gift more significant. All the best!
