Is this the Vokes Tropical Filter or the Aboukir?

I think that's a tropical filter.

Yes, it is! There were two types—the factory Vokes version and the field Aboukir one. I think the aircraft has the factory Vokes chin. Apologies, bud. I should have made that clear.

It is the Vokes filter. The Aboukir was smaller.

Ok I have to ask - why the sudden interest in Spitfires?

It's kinda funny that you brought this up. I'm gonna be doing a Spitfire in US markings soon.

Last week Barracuda Roy republished that famous color photo which was the first time I ever saw a Spitfire looking quite a bit like a Warhawk in the same way if you take the chin off a Mustang she looks a lot like a Spitfire. I also really enjoyed the way Carlos built his P-40 in Trop camo and I want to build one. So a day later I contacted Ralph Riese of Brisbane who built the Malta version. And he built it beautifully. And he left his contact email on LSP. So. I wrote him. And he delivered a 90 page build PDF of his Hobby Boss version. However I have to add in addition to being one hell of a model builder he is extremely kitset savvy and suggested I would be happy with either the detailed HB or the less detailed Hasegawa kit in 1/32. There is a major issue with the Hobby Boss Kit windscreen being incorrect... so yes—hullo Hasegawa.
