Do you like What-if?

While trying to collect some information, ideas etc regarding my fleamarket "findings", I found this old thread..
Duke, you don't happen to have a picture of that "what-if" Tirpitz ? Not that I would perhaps build such a What-if, but I am really curious to see yours. If you still have it ?

Actually yes I do. I still have the ship as well. I'll post the one pic I have from way back; it ain't the best, but here it is:



I made her very heavily armed since the "what-if" intent for West Germany was to use the Tirpitz in the restricted waters on the north shore of Germany and the Baltic sea. Her main purpose would be to 1) supply fire support to German forces attempting to repel a Soviet thrust into northern Germany and 2) deny passage to Soviet submarines trying to break out to the North Sea from the Baltic. Of course, she would be heavily escorted as well by a number of anti-aircraft and anti-submarine ships to assist in this effort.


I may have to repair some of this ship, but I should and get some more detail pics of this model. It is a very cool concept and when I did it way back, I got a high compliment from a career Navy man who called it very plausible.

Wouh Duke, that is a really great one!
And I can see the helicopter also in the pic, makes Tirpitz to look very modern!

Thanks Bruce and Kari! That was a fun little kit-bash I did and I'm thrilled with the outcome.

My next ship "what if" that I would like to do would be a modification of the Graf Zeppelin aircraft carrier to reflect how it might look if the Soviets had not sunk it but instead used it to develop their aircraft carriers. Should be interesting. I just need an old Kiev or Minsk class carrier model and another old Revel ,Graf Zeppelin that I can bash together.

I have Trumpeter´s "Peter Strasser" kit in 1/350 here. Sister ship of "Graf Zeppelin". This one even has kind of a "Reichsflugscheibe" included! That´s what I call "What If"!

I think that's super cool, Thomas! Did Trumpeter make 1/350 Bf109Ts for your carrier????? I need to look up a review!
