How crazy to you want to get???

I'm assuming that you are talking about using the kit engine on the Eduard 1/32 109E-4 kit and then adding some extra detailing? That doesn't sound too crazy to me. If you can't find the Eduard radio compartment, Aires makes one that you could consider...

What would be really crazy is forking out for the Eduard resin engine (I saw a copy of the Eduard Big Sin set for the 109E on Ebay for about $100)...

AND the MG17 mount (for about $50 on Ebay)...

John,

First off- thank you for coming through with the Aires recommendation! I’ll pick that one up on account of the Eduard one is unavailable.

As to the engine and gun, I’m not opposed to buying those for this particular pie-in-the-sky project idea. Gotta all out, you know?

I wonder what else I could pack into this thing...

Whenever I am contemplating a future build, I usually do some product availability checks on EBay and a few online modeling shops such as Sprue Bros and Ultracast.ca. Doing a search for "1/32 Eduard 109E" on Ebay and looking at the 1/32 Aircraft Accessories for the Bf109 at Ultrcast.ca will net you a nice list of goodies.

I possibly have a BRASSIN engine for a 109 in the stash (basement). I will look if it´s still there.

Gonna be watching for this one. Remember to plan it all out and test fit. If you do anything crazy on an opened up build then test fit like crazy. I open up pretty much all my builds and have gotten carried away in getting all the details done and overlooked the very basics of proper fit. I have one build that I detailed up pretty much all the way only to have it look like a "Frankenstein build" when I finished it. Friggin bummer. I over do it now and buy two kits when I open anything up. Extra parts and second chances seem to always be in demand.

Many thanks to all for your input. I love that I can toss ideas like this out here and get supportive feedback.

I’m definitely going to have to add the radio compartment. And that Brassin engine would be nice too, but it’s not a dealbreaker. I really liked the look of the 1:48 engine, and I took a look into my Eduard 1:32 Emil kit and the engine is even nicer. Larger. Same crisp detail. And I’ll twll you, after building and painting and weathering my 1:32 Jumo engine- I enjoy that work. So either one, doesn’t matter. I’ll do my best to make it look nice.

Okay, so! The Eduard radio from Scale Hobbyist seems to be a no-go. I got so excited seeing it there I ordered before I caught that it was backordred. Oh well. Lesson learned- source parts first. I’ll go with the Aires, which looks every bit as nice. I’ll see about sourcing that Brassin engine. It’s a nice-to-have but I won’t be disappointed if I can’t get it, as the kit engine is still a lovely piece.

Meanwhile, I reckon I should use my spare time to learn everything I can about cut-always. And as-per Joe’s suggestion, I’m seriously considering buying a spare kit too.

This is going to be rad!

So these came in the mail today, from Scale Hobbyist!

Couple of things.

1. I’m not allowed to shop online for model building stuff before 10AM, unless I’ve had at least four cups of coffee.

2. I must’ve bought the last one because when the page refreshes it did indeed say Backordered”. See #1.

3. I saw the refund email they sent me, but on closer inspection it was a shipping refund as they were able to mail these to me in the same box as my Mr. Surfacer and Mr. Leveling Thinner. See #1.

4. I screwed up and ordered these in 1:48 and not 1:32. Again, see #1.

Don’t care! I’m stoked! I can still do a super build, just in 1:48 because I happen to have a ProfiPack 1:48 Emil on-hand!

So fellas, looks like we’re a GO!

Yeah. I may be going to a very excessive level with this stuff. And in a very brief period of time.

I say what the hell - if you're happy and it's not breaking the bank or stopping you putting food on the table - it matters not.

Go for it!
