Very interesting post! Thanks for sharing your personal thoughts. I'm sure everyone relates to where you are at in some way. I too am afraid of getting caught in a rut and I don't want to get to a point where I am just doing the same thing to each model that comes across my desk top. I really like the learning aspect... trying new techniques and trying to elevate my craft somehow. I find that following online builds on message boards like this a great way to learn because of the interactive aspect of the internet. Plus you get to see some of the potential pitfalls and shortcomings of particular kits that books and magazines may fail to mention. But I also like browsing through modeling books and magazines. When I first re-entered this hobby about four years ago, I bought the Aircraft Scale Modeling FAQ by AK Interactive to give me a comprehensive collection of modern techniques. It has been a valuable reference for me but I have tweaked the techniques that I've gleaned from books and the internet to suit my own tastes.
