But, please don't think my theme of all of those squadrons is limiting me to just a few types. Sure, there will be ~80 Skyhawks,,,,but, there will 35 different aircraft types in the course of doing all of those squadrons. there will also be a lot of variants for some of the aircraft, as well. (for example, F-4A, F-4B, including all the B variations, F-4J, F-4N, F-4S, early thin wing RF-4B, later thick wing RF-4B, adding up to 12 different variants in just the Phantoms),,,,,,,even more variants of the Skyhawks, from TA-4A to OA-4M.

I don't Rex - I'm kinda the same with Spifires (and most RAF WWII types). I'd like to have a collection of all of the main types of WWII RAF fighters on display, and with the Spitfire that's (counts fingers) 13 marks of fighter and about 6 marks of Photo Recon birds - not including the sub types and the Seafire. Given all of the squadron markings I could easily build nothing else for years and still not have two builds the same. Throw in the 4 marks of Hurricanes and everything else and that's a big chunk of work.

My reasoning falls along with just about everyone else here. I had an idea of building every World War II aircraft at one point in time, but that probably isn't realistic. I have nearly every SBD variant built...except the -6. I also have more than one P-40 or P-51 built...due to working through various Tuskegee schemes and the like. Now I've moved on to modern armor so who knows what's next.

There are a few subject aircrafts I really want to do, one that sticks out in my mind for some quite time now. There was a local boy in the Syracuse, NY area who flew a P-51 Mustang called The Syracusan with the famed Blue Nosed Bastards of Bodney.

No such decal exist for his steed but I'm not giving up that easy. I may have to make my own decals instead. I do know he flew "The Syracusan 2nd" and I do believe there was "The Syracusan 3rd" before he was shot down and disappeared.

I do build multiples of various models be they armor or aircraft; and sometimes ships. However, they vary in markings and versions so no two are exactly alike. For instance, I have six or seven Tiger I's, all of which are different versions from the intitial, the early, the mid production to late and the Fehrman hybrid. I also have at least eleven to fifteen versions of the MiG 21, mostly with different markings. At one time this helped me increase my count when nothing new that fit my collection was forthcoming.

I have lots of the same subject in my stash. Some are even the some moldings, but not the same boxing of the same kit. And each will be built differently in one way or another, even of the same kit. Different markings, paint scheme, load out. Of course there are different versions of the same family. In my armor stash where I also have multiples of the same subject, it's easier to make different versions with simple alterations. But yes, I like to build (or at least buy) multiples of the same subject.

I do it both ways, Carlos.

I have many different boxings of the same tooling, and I have stacks of the exact same boxings too.

For something like the Hasegawa Phantom, we bought lots of the Blue Box release, and then lots of the "new decals and boxart" releases.

In other cases,,,,,the same boxings was the only choice, such as Tamiya's Skyray and Airfix's new tooling Skyhawk. (17 of those before they got removed from the catalog)

Mulitple copies of decal sheets, too. Some have so many options, and are so useful as supplies that buying them 2 or more at a time with each new release helps other model types immensely. AOA's Intruder sheet is a good example of that,,,,,,,two sets of that sheet is an "instant stash" of numbers and letters for dozens of non-Intruder models.

Rex, back when I did build 1/72 kits en masse for my arms race and wars, those old Microscale decal sheets were the bomb! They had markings for SO MANY aircraft on any one sheet... it's funny you mention Hasegawa. They are notorious, in my mind, for reboxing the same molds over and over with no changes but a new decal sheet and a higher price tag...

I echo Carlos' question: You never wargamed with miniatures? You have been deprived and so now it is imperative that you get to a Hobby Day so I can show you what you have been missing. I have a full Fire and Maneuver set at the Hall that we can pull out to play.

I also agree with Hasegawa reboxing with nothing new but the decals; it is why I slowed down buying them. I do still have a number of multiples still in the stash; but I have a bunch I want to get finished first.
