Father’s Day Challenge!

I don’t know if you guys across the world have a ‘Father’s Day’ in June, but we do in the UK (Mother’s day in March/April), it’s on the 19th this year but I’ll be postponing mine this year as I’m at an all weekend Conference on Autism.

Anyway, I digress – normally I get some cards and a few presents from my Wife and Kids each year - but this year my daughter has said she wants to choose a model for me, rather than me telling them what I want - with the proviso that I'm not allowed to just stick it in the stash, I have to start it straight away!!!

The fun part is I don't know what I’m going to get – apparently she’s done a few searches on Amazon by just typing in 'Airfix model kit', 'Revel Model kits' etc. so although I could get an aircraft, it's more likely to be a ship, a tank, a car, or even a building - from any manufacturure or in any scale - I’m looking forward to the challenge.

If anyoe else does have a Father's day - and gets a kit for it - how about a impromptu GB?

I don't trust my kids. My daughter started my fall into this madness again with the Monogram Wright Flyer (a whole story in itself) and last Christmas, my son got me (one eyed, arthritic.....you know) three 1/144 kits. Nope, no way. Not gonna happen.

For you wit normal kids, it does sound like a fun idea.

I would love to join you! BUT, I have not received a model as a gift from family in decades. They know dad buys his own. And yes, this Sunday the 19th is Father's Day here in the USA as well.

It depends, in the recent years I got a 1/144 hurricane (quick and easy build) and a 1/48 spitfire (icm kit, an over engineered and difficult kit). So it could go either way.

Well my Daughter came up trumps - this is what I opened this morning....



Wow - I'm really pleased about this as I've been wanted to build a rocket for a while and the Saturn V is one of my favourites - I've always been interesting in the Apollo Program.

Does anyone know the vintage of the kit?

Oh, interesting. How big is such a rocket?

Stik is pretty knowledgeable about these types of kits so he might know the vintage.
