What kit did you miss when it came around?

hahaha, yes, some of us must drive the collector's nuts. I know that I do, I seek out the rare pieces that I need for an actual built model collection , and then, just like the new kits I get, off comes the shrinkwrap, and the plastic fondling begins.

I did this at the Chattanooga show, right in front of the vendor,,,,I bought a "first release" Blue Box Hasegawa F-4G, then opened it up right in front of him after I paid $50 for it. (I wanted it for one of the decal options, so I had to check their condition)

I thought he was going to faint. So, I explained to him that I didn't buy OOP collectible models as an investment, but, for the plastic or the decals, or for both.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I buy to build, not to invest in a future I may not see. Besides, I've seen too many cases of guys who bought up a lot of OOP kits to sell at collector prices and later lost a bundle when a re-pop or even better kit came out; dropping the value of their stash considerably. That is a side issue to me though. More importantly I get more enjoyment out of building a model and seeing the finished model on my shelf; not from the sealed box. If I like the box art well enough, I can keep it after I finish the model; but it's the model itself that I enjoy the most while I'm building it and afterward when I'm admiring it on the shelf or contest table.


Anyway, that car is my ultimate Holy Grail; maybe someday I'll get one or two; God willing.

Revell's 1/48 F-14B release. I thought those would be around in the shops for much longer than they turned out to be. Not a "Holy Grail" kit for me, but something that I would like to add to my stash. On the plus side, Revell does have the habit of periodically re issuing most everything in their catalog line up, so I am not too worried at this time about not ever being able to add one to my stash.

Ummmm.......did you really say Revell's Tomcat? WHY??? I hate their Tomcats with a passion.

Oh yes, in another thread Lyle mentioned the 1/48 C-130. Now there are a few of those kits I would love to get, even if I will never have the room... Hell, I still don't know what I'll do with the B-1B in my stash if I ever get around to that one...

So you have a B-1B in the stash huh?
