What kit did you miss when it came around?

In the course of talking to Tom in PM about our trade in progress, I asked him if there was a kit he "needed".

That led to a convo about each of our kits that we "missed" and have now become "Ebay search and hope" kits, except they have more than doubled in price since they went OOP.

We both have a kit like that, and both of us agree that we would rather let that spot just stay open instead of trying to pay hundreds of US dollars for it, and make somebody rich.

Mine is the AJ Savage. My choices are the very expensive Anigrand Savage. A beautiful kit, all resin, crisp molding, but $106 when it was introduced at the Nats a few years ago. Next comes the Rareplane Vac, also a great kit, but, it lives up to the name "rareplane", and gets auctioned off at extremely good profit for anyone that bought one back in the day. Third choice is the Mach 2 kit,,,,,,,,and I have some their kits, and won't pay the Ebay price for what Mach 2 puts in their boxes. I was talking to a Navair aftermarket guy about it, and he agreed,,,,,,,,,and then said he had a started vac kit of the Savage that someone sent him to finish,,,,,,Airmodel vac is the closest we can come to identifying it. It came with no instructions, no landing gear and no props,,,,,,,,but, it will fill that A-2 slot in my collection without causing a divorce here at the Hangar Deck.

So, what did you folks do? Just miss the model in your set,,,,,,,,,,or build something like this Airmodel Vac as a 30-footer? (that is a model 10 times worse than the 3 footers we talk about, lol) I also missed some releases that had special decals in a mainstream tooling, but, that can be solved by searching for the unused options on someone's old decal sheets.

What did you folks miss that you wish you had bought when it was first out?

Revell's 1/48 F-14B release. I thought those would be around in the shops for much longer than they turned out to be. Not a "Holy Grail" kit for me, but something that I would like to add to my stash. On the plus side, Revell does have the habit of periodically re issuing most everything in their catalog line up, so I am not too worried at this time about not ever being able to add one to my stash.

I have a couple of kits on my "I wish I had picked that up when I saw it for cheaper, list". One of those kits is a 1/72 KC-135 and a 1/72 C-130H, when I saw them at a LHS a few years ago, they were priced around $30 and I thought that was a little steep, now I wish I'd have picked them both up. Cant seem to find either of them under $60 now.

There is one kit I picked up at a LHS back in the early 90s just before Griffiss AFB closed down due to the decision on the Base Realignment and Closure list. That kit was a 1/144 scale B-52 kit that included Griffiss AFB markings. I know I have it in "somewhere" my home since 1998 when we first moved in. I can't find it anywhere. Maybe I've got gremlins... LOL! Not sure what manufacturer it was either.

I've looked in various hobby sites but no dice. That kit is one I really want in the worse way.

One of those "I wished I had the money back then" kits was IMAI´s 1/16 scale Elefant tank. This was back in the 70ties, I think. The kit never was released again after then...

Oh yes, in another thread Lyle mentioned the 1/48 C-130. Now there are a few of those kits I would love to get, even if I will never have the room... Hell, I still don't know what I'll do with the B-1B in my stash if I ever get around to that one...

I did finally get one of theTestor's/Italeri kits for what the new J models sell for. I still can't believe I threw that and a B-52 in the trash during a move.

I have that B-1 to. It is going to be huge! I have not got a clue where en when to build it.

As for kits I missed: I like Vultee aircraft but the Sword P-66 seems to be out of production.....

Other hard to find kits on my wish list: Airmodel Me-163D, Artmodel I-185.

But my real holy grail of modelling is a book. Stephen Ransom's Me-163 Komet volume 1 (I have vol. 2) It is going for crazy prices, hunderds of euro's.
