Do you ever reach the point of...

Post by Stikpusher »

just wanting to be done with a project? There is a little detail, two, or three, that you have holding you up, have been for quite some time, and you either can let it sit and eventually you can possibly get it done with a future better degree of skill, or you can get it done now with lesser finesse and move on to other projects you are more fired up to work on... :hmm:

I usually hit this point when its time to crack out the airbrush. I just think "Ugh, does it really need to be painted?"
You can learn all the math in the 'Verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

For me....dealing - all those stencils. Another is finishing up the fiddly bits. That is where I usually mangle a build.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

My Messerschmitt 262 is almost done since weeks. Just have to add the gear and fiddly bits and the final oil weathering.

JUST! :bag:

Yeah I have a couple of HMMWVs that I am so close to finishing that I really want and need to get knocked off my bench to make some room... and it is mostly over the bumper codes/numbers... do them now so so and get them covered with weathering, or wait until I get better stuff later and still cover them with weathering... :hmm: :Beaver:

I don't ever get hung up on details...the next step holds me up.

I usually get held up, right about here.

Step 1....Just starting, up through ready for paint.

I usually get held up, right about here.

Step 2....Painting.

I usually get held up, right about here.

Step 3...Gloss, Decals, Gloss

I usually get FIRED up, right about here...to get the thing finished!

Step 4...Fiddly bits, weathering, final touches.

As Fermis can attest I used to crank em out about two a month but now if I finish one every two months I am cooking along.
That is why I have a bunch of things that are started and sitting on the shelf. There are always issues however small or large that says put it away for later.

I have a WnW Albatros 75% done for just that reason. Misaligned the wing spars and shelved it pending the will to repair. Also have Humm-Vee desert Storm dio that I've been waiting to complete, once I figure out what to do about the MP brassards.

So, in answer to your question, being a bit of an OCD monster in my builds, yes, I do have some I wish I was done with, but resist the urge to just push it.
