A question for you Armo(u)r builders...

I've a question for you armour builders.

I've just bought my 1st armour kit - a Revell 1/72 Challanger 1. The thing is I'm not sure of the best way to build it.

It has multi-part plastic tracks that need to be assembled - but do I paint these after I've assembled the whole tank, just after doing the tracks only, or before assembly? I've seen all sorts of methods on the net - not sure of the right way though.

What sort of workflow do you guys follow?

Well, I'm not an armor guy...but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night

Anyway, I did one some years ago, that had sections of track. I painted them first, then put/assembled them on the model after it was painted. Just a coule little touch ups where the joins were.

If you don't want to do weathering, or heavy weathering, pre painted is the way to go. If you want to do moderate to heavy weathering, assemble first, then paint the completed running gear afterwards. Have a look at a few of my armor builds in the In Progress forum for some ideas on that.

I guess you won´t need to do the upper run of the tracks due to the side skirts hiding them. I would paint the tank and the track each for its own, then try to apply the tracks later.
