Relaxation or Laser Focus?
The "Safety First" thread got me thinking.
Yes I know that can be dangerous
No pun intended...
But I did let slip that on occasion, during time at the bench I will imbibe with a cool refreshing adult beverage on occasion. Not all the time, but if the work is not overly requiring of micro concentration and finesse, and perhaps there is dull repetitive work going on or just to unwind a tad bit more. I almost always have music of some sort playing as I work.
No matter what the demands of the task. But how many of you do similar things? Do you listen to music or something else as you work? Do you need absolute silence and laser focus to lose yourself in your project? Do you sip on something stronger than a ginger ale to help move the project along at times?

Yeah, same here. Spiritual Beggars - Live in London* this evening.
Classic, O.S.T. or some decent Rock/Metal stuff when I need to be awake.

With two kids in the house I tend to enjoy the silence when I'm building stuff in my car - sometimes I'll listen to something peaceful. If I'm at home I may watch a film.
When I was a teenager building stuff and had a proper modelling bench I had a TV/VHS set up on it so I could watch films while building - mainly old war films and sci-fi. I really missing having my own full time bench.

SILIENCE!!! Or I keel you!!!
I like my quiet time when building. That is if and when I have that "time" to do any.

I like to put the history channel on tv, Kelly's heros dvd, or the hunt for red October dvd or something similar for background noise while I am working on something.

Re: Relaxation or Laser Focus?
It depends for me. Sometimes, if I've not got too much mojo going and just go in there to sand and putty and do small little things; I'll work in silence. If I go in there all ready to airbrush, or do some extensive building; I'll hook up my Iphone to a speaker thing my wife gave me and choose my Classic Rock playlist. That includes such classic groups as Boston, Kansas, Jethro Tull, Metallica, Styx, Journey, Rolling Stones, as well as some other "motivating" music, like "Danger Zone", and the Theme from Rocky/Gonna Fly Now, and some others. That's when I am able to get major progress done, sometimes even finishing seven models on the same day....
Being an Irishman, I will occasionally (especially around St. Patty's Day) pulled up my Irish Tunes playlist and build to that.
I've rarely imbibed an alcoholic beverage; although it has been known to happen occasionally. Most of the time I'm bringing ice water or a soda in. And I haven't got a TV or PC/laptop or anything with a DVD player in it to watch in the Hobby Room.
