Interesting Question From Another Forums...

Post by Duke Maddog »

One of the Forums I'm a member of will go dark in September of next year when the domain name comes up for renewal. Sadly, this is because most members who used to make it fun; left for Facebook and/or other modeling Forums. This Forums had been around for ten great years. It was the first modeling Forums that truly made me feel welcome and accepted, and in which I had the most fun.

One of the remaining members posted an interesting open question that I'd like to post here.

"In the time that you've been a member of this Forums, how many models of all genres have you completed?"

The answers over there were very interesting to say the least. I haven't been a member here for long enough to have a large count, but many of you have been around far longer. It would be interesting to see your counts. Mind you, this question is NOT intended to embarrass anyone or call someone out for over-production or under-production. The question is solely intended to get all the members thinking about all of the great models we as a group have produced in the time you've been here.

Have some fun with it and I look forward to seeing some of your answers.

A forum has to shut down because the domain name has to be renewed? :hmm:

Indeed I have to think about if and how many models I finished while SPAM is online, including the first place we started with. At least the 1/32 scale Zoukei-mura Horten 229. But there are many others I did start just for the fun!

:hmm: That's a good question. Well I know I've done 7 this year. I think maybe 10 total?

Oh, probably six or so.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Not because the domain name has to be renewed. It's just that so many people have left and become more active in other places that it was decided to close it down. It's sad too because so many of them are still members; and if they'd just continued to return to those Forums this would never have happened. Because there are still a few hardcore members (me included) still keeping it going; it was decided to keep it up until the domain name ran out instead of just closing it down straight away, thus giving us a little more time to say goodbye.

I know my count is way down since I just started here more or less. I know another Forums that I frequent is looking into setting up a heritage Forum within their site for all members to post all their models they complete so that everyone can see them all together. Each member would be responsible for keeping his own Thread going. I think that is a cool idea myself.

Keep posting guys! You've all got some interesting answers!

all of them?? The mig-29 build was my first ever "adult" model, and It was posted up on the (magazine) forum. I dont realy consider anything earlier than the mig-29 as "real" modeling, since all those early kits had just been glopped together...

As for SPAM...how long has it been? Two years?? :hmm:

I did some quick googling to figure out what forum you're talking about since none of the ones I lurk are closing up, so I found which one it is and from what I've heard from a bunch of ex members is that it's one of the most hostile places on the internet...no surprise it's closing from what I've heard. That just means you get to spend more time here. :shoutout:
With the lack of traffic in here it often feels like this place is closing up :bored:
