Keeping Your Head in the Game

I am very "happy" to read that this behaviour is more common than I thought..

I am not alone! :-)

Looking at the great WIP's on these pages you guys share, I always feel, sort of guilty, that my projects are not really finalised.
Which has caused to the fact, that I have some WIP's ongoing, but have not really shared them on these pages.. Because it's not nice to leave something half-way.

For example, I have a 1:48 Corsair II on the bench, a HobbyBoss 1:48 F-14A that is 25% done and a bunch of other ones.. I have not stopped the building of them, they are just postponed... :-)

So for me to go "Public" with my tiny Gnat, was a big decision.
But I have made a commitment, I will bloody hell finish this project... And so far, looks good. :-)

And I do the same as Thomas also wrote.. many evenings I just sit at my bench, without really doing anything else than arranging the desk, "preparing" for the next build, planning etc. And suddenly an hour or two has gone. But hey, as long I as I enjoy, even only moving paint jars from place A to place B, then I am happy! :-)

Does anyone else experience the phenomenon? Is this why some of us have a dozen or more projects on the go at times?

Yes....and, I believe, the reason many of us have such large stashes. For every kit that I have ever bought...I saw finished results and developed a quick plan to get there, before even taking the money out of my wallet. But..there's always something on the bench already...by the time the ongoing project is finished, my interest has moved on from the newer kit, or I just don't feel up to doing all the intended procedures to get the results I had envisioned.....so the stash grows!

I think, at some point, it becomes a natural progression to have more than one build going at a time. Not only does it keep from becoming burned out, but there's times where you have to wait for paint to dry, decals to set, glue to cure, etc...

I currently have 4 builds going on right now, and started cleaning resin for a 5th I'll start soon.

That's not including the start of my HO train layout build....

My biggest problem is finding time to actually build. Family commitments, work and whatnot is a pain. Also, buying more kits to add to the stash is another problem too. Since my dad decided to enter an Adult Assisted Living home, time is spent on sorting out his finances, cleaning out his house, getting stuff sorted to what to keep, what to toss, what to put up for sale at an estate sale in order before getting the house on the market.

Then one day, I got to thinking of Christmas gift for my dad this year. I've decided to build not 1, but 2 destroyer ships my dad was on while he served in the Navy from 1957 - 1961. Gonna be a challenge to build one of the ships but currently got the guidance and help I need to get it done. It's just a matter of actually buying the kits I need and finding the time to order them. It never ends...

Part of the phenomenon is due in part to the large number of releases each year and the amount of AM available for each new kit---and the Internet and online stores that make ordering what you want easy.

When I started back into the hobby in the 90's new releases were much rarer and if you couldn't find it in your local hobby store you MIGHT be able to phone in an order from an ad in a magazine. Now I order things from electronically from Singapore using yen without blinking an eye...

We all are constantly searching for that Holy Grail build...

Very much so. I've got ideas and plans for the next few builds and I have five on the bench now!!
