How to up your game?

My tips to improve:

- use quality tools, paints and glue: when in college I used to try to model "on the cheap". But in the long run that cost you more time, money and a lot of frustration.

- higher quality is easier to achieve with quality models: I like odd stuff so I often build old, short run and somtimes even vacform models. These need a lot of work to get up to standard. The first time I build a Tamiya kit was a revelation: all the detail is there, everything fits perfectly (so no filling or glue smears)

- focus on the proces of building: not the end result: do not get hung up on one part of the model: trying to achieve "perfection" leads to frustration and slows down the build.

- develop skills by doing something often: I used to be a very slow builder because I wanted to build competition models. The result: zero models completed. By the time I had assembled a model I lost all my airbrush skills.... you need to doo these things often to get better at them.

I can't really add much to what's already been said, but I approach new techniques and builds with an open mind. You can't be afraid of making mistakes, because then you would never learn. If I "mess up" then I've learned how NOT to do something!


Is all mind over matter for me. When I see the masterpieces some of the club members put together, I don't think " I could never do that." No! I say to myself " I want to LEARN how to do that! " and club members are always ready to share their tricks

Make the one you're working on better than the one you just finished!

I know...it's way easier said than done....but in actuality, that should kinda happen all on it's own because...practice!
Just like a coyote trying to catch a rabbit...he will fail a couple few times before he succeeds!
