Assistance/Advice needed

Post by LyleW »

I have a friend who knows about my hobby and he is into the comic-con stuff. He has a full size rocket pack for the Rocketman character. Tells me it is resin. He said he had it on a rack and it fell over and cracked in several places and wanted to know what the best glue might be.

Well, what would it be? Will resin take to Tamiya Extra Thin? Does he need to epoxy it and then all the sanding, etc.? Or will CA do the job.

If its is resin 2K epoxy or super glue should be fine. For strong bonds I would use 2K epoxy. Tamiya Extra Thin won´t work on resin.
He could test on a hidden spot, though.

Oh, and if he will have to fill and sand cracks I would suggest Magic Sculp or Milliput. Can be smoothed with a wet finger when applied and dries rock hard.

Good Day, Thomas! That is sort of what I was thinking. Could not see how a styrene cement would work with resin, but i've not used resin for anything. Thanks.

Definetely a GO for the Mr Surfacer/Milliput stuff - works best. For the connections CA glue works best, if he needs a quick bonding a small amount of added flour will work too - be careful, because it will add more volume. Maybe he should try this on other pieces.

Drilling holes and using more or less small metal rods for the connection will help too - depends on the pieces itself. Are there any pictures?

Lucas, I've asked him for pictures of the damage. I'll pass along the other recommendations, too. I keep trying to get him to give our group a look.
