Got this and a few others, looking for respite from the O’Brien. Looking for a “playful” hull color for some reason. Found this stuff at the local Ace Hardware. I really mucked up the masking. Not sure why, but it felt different. So, it has a coating of Easy Off. I also forgot to prime it. The plastic is waxy.

This paint put down the shiniest coat out of the can I’ve seen. It looked like molded plastic.



Anyway, spray, clean, repeat. Right?





Once it is cleaned up, I’ll wash it, prime it, mask it and try again.

Great kit, Lyle. Maybe in addition to washing, try stripping the fresh paint. The waxy plastic you describe is also known as Tupperware plastic which a lot of AMT Enterprise kits are known to have. I don’t even think you have to strip it completely; maybe soak in a bucket of Green Power!

Tupperware is a very good description. The paint came off really well with the Easy Off. some staining, but that will be covered.

That spray paint is really high gloss! I’m thinking I could try it on my car bumper covers.

Very high gloss. Laid down nicely. Looked like the cap..plastic sheen, smooth.

Cleaned, washed, primed, white applied…now to mask for the hull color.

What to do here? Box is black, the rustoleum is enamel and comes out like a fire hose, or I have a similar blue in Tamiya, as well as Tamiya in a red, green…

Well my Daddy used to say model paint formula is the way to go. I’d add that no paint that comes out like a firehouse is going to help you here. If I’ve misinterpreted what you wrote let me know. Also just my opinion but I’d test everything on something else that doesn’t matter; could be a scrap piece of plastic or a plastic cup.

No, those Rustoleum cans spray huge amounts. Have to keep your distance from the subject. Nothing done today. Was at the hospital until 12:30, took almost an hour and a half to get home due to traffic. It was horrible. Then, I still had no internet. My router was dead. So, back out in the traffic to Walmart, got a new router. All is working now. And, I got an ice cream on the way back.
