The amount of detail you can put on such a figure with modern machinery is mind boggling. 3D Printing is more and more coming out of its niche, but there's still the issue with all those attachment points. I think both techniques will coexist for quite some time.
Of course the quantity in which you want to produce something is still an imortant factor.
