Tamiya Flat Base?
In my search for a sure enough flat clear, I bought some Tamiya flat base product. Can that stuff be added to the regular Tamiya clear flat finish to achieve an even more matte clear?

Re: Tamiya Flat Base?
I'd be skeered to do that, Gary. Better to work out how much flat base to add to Future or Tamiya Gloss Clear. Don't add much if you do. I have been surprised in the past how quick the tipping point is between the amount that gives a good flat finish and one that leaves the dread white flecks. I have more controllable results with Alclad Flat or Matt, what I get seems to depend mostly on how thick the layer is and I have never had a result that I did get with too much flat base. Also, I wonder if when flat base gets older there is some precipitate the causes the flecks.

I use Testors flat and flat clearcoat. If I’m not mistaken, Carlos mentioned Humbrol flat clear gives a dead flat look.

Re: Tamiya Flat Base?
Humbrol is my go to for a guaranteed dead flat finish clear coat.
That being said, I’ve tried Tamiya Flat Base added to their Flat Clear and it is such a fine line between not enough and too much. But I have tried a good combo that works well that I learned from our own Duke Maddog, Future with Tamiya Flat Base, start at around a ratio of roughly 2 parts Tamiya to 8 parts Future and adjust from there to your preference.

Carlos, please indulge me for one more question; what thinner (if needed?) do you use with this Humbrol clear?

Just don't get their gloss black base coat. There's been horror stories about them.
