HOT DAMN!!!! Guess where I'm going this weekend! Finally a new LHS opening in my area. This is sorely needed. Clinton is a 15 - 20 minute drive from my home.

Good news, indeed!
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Excellent news! Utica NY area eh?
I remember there used to be a shop out there that advertised in FSM and I would order from in pre internet days. Excellent prices compared to anybody else, but I don’t remember the name of the shop.

Well, let’s see.....
There was:
K&K Hobbies
I know there was one on Whitesboro Street I used to frequent there. Just can’t remember the name of the shop. I know it was near Oneida Bike next door.
Uptown Auto - Jim Amado used to sell car kits exclusively.
Can’t remember one other one on Oriskany Blvd. That one was the last LHS in my area to close.

Very lucky. I live in the third (or fourth depending on who you ask) city in the US and I have ONE LHS.

Re: New LHS opening this Friday
Well, I finally got a chance to check out the new Hobbytown in Clinton this afternoon. Nice little store and I think it will do well. They have a wide variety of stuff for everyone from RC airplanes/cars, stuff for the younger kids (color by number painting kits, puzzles, stuffed toys, etc..), Wargaming/WarHammer figures, model kits - auto, aircraft, armor, monster, sci-fi - definitely heavy on Gundam kits I’ve never seen before that puts HL to shame. Mostly Atlantic, Polar Lights, as well as the usual Revell, AMT, MPC but very little Tamiya kits.
Their kit selections are decent and I almost walked out with a couple one being the Glencoe 1/48 scale Curtiss Jenny kit (2020 release for $19.99) and a balsa kit - they had 3. The Stuka, Fw-190 and the Wildcat ($23.99 ea.).
Finally a hobby store I can restock on my paints - Tamiya acrylics and lacquers, Vallejo Model Model Air colors, Army Painter colors, Citadel, and I forget one other brand. They even had 3 boxes of discontinued Model Master colors (limited choices), Testors Creatix stains, and Testors weathering stains. I may go back and pick up a few discontinued Model Master colors just to have on hand.
Hobby supplies too from sanding sticks, diorama supplies, styrene sheets/tubing, metal tubings, nippers, glues, tools, etc…
I talked to one of the owners asked a few questions on their stock expanding, inquiring if they had plans on hosting a hobby day or activities of sorts. They may depending on what the community like to see. I also told them their store is sorely needed in this area. They asked what type of model kits I do and told her all types. I also asked if they plan on starting an IPMS chapter (nope
)
I think it will do very well considering it was a very busy opening weekend and perfect timing with the Christmas holiday shopping season underway.
Now begs the question did I walk out with any purchases? No. As I’ve already mentioned, I was oh so very tempted to walk out with the Glencoe Curtiss Jenny kit.

Re: New LHS opening this Friday
Well walking out empty handed is not supporting your local shop…
Not even any paint or glue? I’m sure that you’ll correct that on your next visit.
