Mr. Dissolved Putty

Post by LyleW »

Anyone have any experience with this product? I bought a jar and I'm not sure what to think of it. It is simply putty dissolved in thinner as its name states. I've been using in on the B-2...yep still sanding, priming, "oh pooh-ing" and applying more filler.

I use it from time to time. Doesn't seem to shrink as much as Mr. Surfacer. Sands easily enough. My jar is now thickening up and is getting less dissolved.

My two cents - If you go to the B-2 thread
http://www.spamodeler.com/forum/viewtop ... 903#p10903

You can see some of my results with this "stuff". I must be too heavy-handed as it cracked all over. It also seemed to take a long time to dry completely. Where it was a lighter coat, it did sand easily. I'm still not sure of the best way to apply it, though. Do I use a toothpick? A brush? What? I used a brush and had not-so-good results in it self-leveling as it is supposed to do.

JimD gave me a tip to thin the Bondo Glazing compound. I did that using lacquer thinner. Got it to about the same consistency as the Mr. DP and had wonderful results. Using a 1/4" brush, it would dab on, level out and dry in minutes. Good for my impatience. I think I'll be using Señor Dissolved Bondo, James Bondo, for the most part.

I use it all the time. It's superb.

Store it upside down, and use the interior lid for the putty you'll use. Apply with a toothpick and use a wet finger to immediately remove any excess. When dry, you can remove any further excess and smooth it with a cotton bud soaked in Mr Thinner or IPA.

Thanks for the advice, Jim! I'll try that.
