Draining an compressor
Draining an compressor
I need to change the oil of my silent compressor. Has any one of you guys ever drained their compressor? Any tips or tricks that I should know?

Re: Draining an compressor
Never changed the oil on my old and trusty Revell Omega. Any reason to do so?
Borg, the manual is of no help here? Or, maybe, the shop you bought it from?

First of all the oil level has dropped below the minimum. And the manual suggest changing oil when this happens.Thomas_M wrote:Never changed the oil on my old and trusty Revell Omega. Any reason to do so?

However, the manual has a very short description of how this works. And it is in text only.....
I think the store I bought it from will definetly be present at Euro Scale modelling so I can ask them there for further information.

Re: Draining an compressor
I found the manual and just followed the instructions (duh!) , drained and changed the oil.
The oil out of the compressors was yellowed and had derbies floating. So changing it probably was a good idea.
Here is how it looked:

Is there an air tank also? My Revell Omega has the same type of compressor, but I never changed the oil since I got this. Reminds me to vent the air tank on our new compressor today...
Re: Draining an compressor
That yellow soup is from that black tank, there is no extra airtank. But I think the black tank is an airtank (as you might notice, I am not an expert)
It is an Hansa 20, a silent compressor, great tool. I am very happy with it, I used to have an Revell Beta but the air pulsated and could not be regulated. The Hansa solves all this and is whisper quite.

Re: Draining an compressor
We recently bought the Revell MasterClass compressor when a shop offered it for a reduced. Very happy with this new addition.
Re: Draining an compressor
That Revell compressor looks nice. The tank is a bit larger (1,5 vs 2,5 l) but it is a bit louder then the Hansa (38 vs 50 db). But with a larger tank it probably does not need to run that often.
I think I should upgrade to a double action airbrush to get more performance out of this compressor.

Re: Draining an compressor
You will be amazed about the possibilities of a double action AB. I started with a Harder & Steenbeck Evolution, and still use it today!
Re: Draining an compressor
Sounds like an good idea, maybe I will spoil myself at Euro Scale Modelling...
