Monogram Me-262 "Red 17"

Here's another that I can't find believe I never posted here. It's the old Monogram Me-262, my all-time favorite airplane, I guess. I remember seeing one depicted on the Blue Oyster Cult's Secret Treaties album cover. I didn't know what it was but its shark-like appearance hooked me, and I was intrigued by the Latin American themed image. Heck, it still looks cool to me after all the years!

When the "Stormbird Project" was building its replicas, I got in touch with them about volunteering.

Unfortunately, the commute from central Texas to Seattle, Washington killed the deal.

I built this Me-262 somewhere between 1992 and '95 I'd guess. I really should've kept better build records back then. I knew very little about weathering and wear, and looking back now, my models from that era look more toy-like I guess. Because of that, I had never taken the Me-262 out for a proper photo session. I took this plane and two other birds out to the airport. One of them was the Monogram F-15 recently posted here. Both the Me-262 and the F-15 photographed well out there, surprisingly. Nothing like a good background of hangars and skies to bring out their best I guess. πŸ™‚

I'm sure it was painted with Humbrol and ModelMaster enamels, through my Paasche H. I think the only mods that I made were masking tape harnesses and aftermarket decals. The red paint is Fix All brand house paint, Mohawk Red, that is probably near 50 years old. It is in a 1/4 pint (118ml) can bought when the ancient E.L. Weid Hardware store closed here in Cameron. Back when paint was paint!

Photos taken at the Cameron Municipal Airport; thanks for taking a look, and for your interest and support, my friends!

It means a lot to me to receive such great comments on this old model from such a talented group of modelers. Thanks from the bottom of my old heart for your encouragement, support and camaraderie! πŸ‘

Very nice work Gary! Nothing wrong with a clean build like this without weathering. It sure does not look toylike to my eye. :hmm:
And getting it out to the airport for a proper photo session sure helps! :shoutout:

Thanks for those great comments, Carlos! I sure do appreciate your support, my friend! πŸ₯ƒ There's no doubt that the airport setting really enhances the models. I'm glad that this one finally got her turn too!

Thanks, Bruce! I'm working on getting a better depth of field; my dear friend, Richard Krall, a professional photographer, videographer, designer and musician (one of the few, truly Renaissance men that I know!) has been giving me some advice in that direction. His help has been invaluable to me and as I haven't had that many opportunities to try out his suggestions, I'm rather eager to get some more photo sessions done with all the models that still haven't been photographed.

Bruce, here are a couple examples of my efforts to improve the depth of field:
