Trying to get a gloss coat on my spitfire.
Tamiya X-22. 1:1 thinner to clear ratio.
Cant remember the exact pressure. I think im sitting around 12PSI? its hard to read the gauge, i generally run by feel.
Im on coat...5? And it keeps coming out satin. I run a soft dust coat. Let it dry for a couple of seconds then come back with a heavy wet coat till the model is wet and shiny. Come back in an hour and its gone satin.
Im not sure what im doing wrong.

The thinner may be causing it to dry too fast. A new bottle might not need thinner.

Or try Isopropyl alcohol. I thin all Tamiya x/xf paints 50:50

Isnt the thinner supposed to have a retarder in it?
Maybe ill pick up a new bottle of both this week and see if it makes a difference. And ill try it with IPA instead of thinner just to see if that works.
If that fails ive found a substitute for future. Long Life self shining floor polish. It seems to react exactly the same way as future did. Its just milky out of the bottle.
I was hoping i was doing something wrong and it just needed some tweaks. Oh well.

I thin both Future and Tamiya XF series with Gunze self levelling thinner. Works like a charm.

I see some great advice here, perhaps you were shooting from too far away too. Does Tamiya call for such an even amount of thinner? I would have done a 60-40 mix to see if that would have been better.

And I always wonder why people thin Future...I've always shot it straight and never had any issues. It surely comes out shiny gloss when I do that!

I was thinking spraying too far as well. Or too much thinner in the clearcoat to thinner ratio.

Ive never actually read anything from tamiya about thinning ratios except "Milk like viscosity"
I just heard a youtuber talk about 50/50 mix and tried it and it worked and ive stuck with it since for colours.
Doesnt seem to work so great for my clear though.
Ill try tweaking the ratios and see if that helps.
