Rumours from FSM

Apparently a poster posted a rumor that Testors is supposedly discontinuing their paint line - mainly their International color lines. I have not found any solid evidence of Testors releasing that statement. One says Rustoleum bought out Testors and discontinuing their paint line due to lack of interests or profitability. I mentioned that Testors was a part of Rustoleum brand anyway.

I posted I don't believe Testors is discontinuing their paint line because I have not seen any current news reports of such thing. Has anyone heard or read any news reports of Testors discontinuing their paint line?

It's true. They are discontinuing their enamel line. One of the guys at ARC emailed them and got this response.

Thank you for contacting Rust-Oleum Product Support. We appreciate your use of our Model Master line!

We are sorry for the disappointment this has caused you. The International Military & Figure Enamels were discontinued due to the lack of support for them in the marketplace. Our other Model Master lines are still available.

We’ll be sure to forward your comments along internally and we greatly value your feedback.

If you have any additional questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.

Well I sure as hell am not switching to their Acrylic line... nothing but problems with those... Good thing Humbrols are readily available for me at most local shops.

Well they only make a few colors in their enamel line that Humbrol does not. I will buy those. Otherwise it looks like they will not be getting much more of my money. Certainly not for paints. I suppose I better buy their enamel thinner as well... just in case.

The only LHS in my area still carries MM enamels and rarely moves them. Send me a PM shout out and I'll be happy to send you whatever color you need.

Well most of my paints are acrylic. I have a lot of MMA, but I've been slowly switching over to Vallejo, Hataka, AK and Ammo. So even if they discontinue their MMA line, I'll be set.

I saw that rumor on a couple of sites other than FSM. One said that RPM was shutting down Testors,,,,,and the other said that the MM line is going away.

In both cases they overstated it,,,,,what is going away is only the "Model Master II" line. (numbers in the 2xxx range) The older Model Master Enamel line is staying. "MM I" is not part of the "International Military & Figure Enamels" line,,,,,,,,IM&FE is just a portion of the Model Master Enamels line. (IM&FE is the real name of "MM II" that comes with 2xxx item numbers)

So, you can go ahead and keep using Testors' Enamel paints (1/4oz) and Model Master I (1/2oz and 17xx numbers) And the Model Master Acryl line is completely safe from this move.

Yes that I have seen at some shops. They have revamped and consolidated both lines into one. Some of the original line colors were discontinued, as were some of the colors introduced into the MMII line. But new colors were introduced in this latest version.

Thank you Rex for the clarification regarding Testors line of paint. It's funny folks get a knee jerk reaction when they hear news of a certain line of paint being discontinued without getting the real answer.
