Very cool! I couldn't imagine painting a figure or bust that size.

Actually its easier than painting smaller figures/busts - mostly because there are bigger areas to paint which allows you wider paint strokes. In 28mm for example you really have to think twice how you paint. A washing in smaller scales gives of course more contrast etc.

When I paint bigger figures/busts I choose those with very good molds - I have no time and/or patience to rework big areas. And this bust is a damn good cast I have to say. Its only two pieces: the torso incl. head and the gun + stick. Thats it.

Did you first apply some black primer? Beautiful work so far, and such a dramatic bust!

Yes, black primer is very important to create good contrasts when you paint a figure. Some painters do it, some dont, its a matter of believe as always.

For me personally it helps a lot, especially when metal tones are involved (thats the same reason why car builders for example use a glossy black when they paint Alclad II etc.). When you spray lightly with grey or white over the black, you have a perfect light, and that comes in handy when you paint faces.
