I've been messing about with a new painting technique to see what results I can get.

1st coat...



2nd Coat - Humbrol grey enamel with black blended in over random areas...



What do you think? I'm trying to get away from a flat colour and get a morn worn appearance.

And did I mention this was done with a Hairy stick?

I like it!

Similar to how I used to do it.
I'd airbrush or rattlecan the main color...hit the panel lines with black pastel chalk, then dry-ish brush the base color, which mixes the pastels in with the paint...it makes a hell of a mess! Then I'd go back with a lightened shade of the base color and dry-ish brush again, which tones down the dark pastels, a lot!

Here's a couple that I did that way...

Those are some really nice looking models Fermis and that sounds an interest technique!

Sorry - I should have said that I did this by using a no.4 round tipped brush rather than a flat, and used a dabbing motion rather than a stroke. By doing this in a random pattern with very thinned paint and working from wet to dry and then back to the wet I was able to vary the depth/opacity of the paint.

I'll be trailing a few other colours and seeing if a black base helps - I just thought I'd share the idea.

Fermis, you mix artists pastels (powder) by drybrushing with a brush?

I used to. It was one of those "accidental discoveries"!
It was my first model, after returning from a few years break, and my first time trying pastels. I went a little overboard with the pastels, so in an attempt to clean it up a bit, I drybrushed the base color over it...it looked terrible...but it turned out great (in my eyes) after drybrushing a second time.
