Vallejos new metal colors

Hi there.

Some weeks ago I heard rumors that Vallejo has new metal colors. I have to admit that I made some not so good experiences with metal colors in the past when theyre acrylic based. Theyre not bad of course, but for me as a figure painter (in most cases) Im not easy to convince. First choice has been (and will be for a while, I guess) Humbrol metal cote colors, at least for larger areas.

Some fellow modellers tried and said that they were really good if you treat them right. So I had a try too and what can I say? Theyre very good indeed! Havent tried to airbrush them yet, so far theyre working very well on my SciFi battlesuits.

Thin layers for accents? No problem. The full chrome program after two thin layers with a brush? WOW!

Whats your opinion/experience(s)?

I, too, have heard positive experiences from other users. I'm curious to hear of your experiences using the new Metallic paint by Vallejo.

Not a review, but some words about my first impression:

Theres 32ml in the bottle - thats pretty big. The color itself is very thin. No wonder at all - its supposed to be an airbrush color, but that doesnt mean that you cant brush it. The thin consistence has some serious advantages when you oaint it by brush: for example you can layer the color and create subtle effects instead of "fire & forget".

That means the color wont be "the full program" after painting it once.

I have chosen a chrome color (No. 77.707) - because you always need it somewhere. the color dries very fast, it takes not even 5 minutes until its dry.

Conclusion:

Highly recommended and a very useful addition to your colors.

I bought one (Steel) the other day at a LHS when I discovered that they had them. Looking forward to using them and getting the entire range.
