Hi all,

there is already a thread Mostrich started regarding the Alclad and AMMO of Mig "consolidation".
But what about AK Extreme Metal, anyone having any experience of this new product?

I bought recently one bottle of "Polished aluminium", more or a less to test it hopefully soon.
But as I have never painted any metallic-paints before, I am not the right guy to tell the quality compared to other (such as Alclad etc).
Can only say, that this brand will nevertheless be my "reference point" to all other metallic paints..

I know nothing about AK but the guy in this article used it and suggests to watch the how to videos on YouTube.

but seems the builder used AK's True metal wax-paste and not the Xtreme Metal paint.

Nevertheless, I was not aware of the wax, seems to be more handier product to be apply as airbrush is not required at all

Phil Flory tested them recently. He had some issues with peeling when removing the (Tamiya) tape. He says they are good paints but he's not entirely convinced, because he found some of the advantages praised by the manufacturer not really that existent.

Had a friend that used them and liked them.

Ok, I tested now my bottle of Xtreme Metal "Polished aluminium" AK 481

First of all, what a joy to airbrush it! Goes on so nicely and smoothly and has truly very high covering power.
Have not experienced such easyness with my Guenze, Tamiya or Revell Acrylics.

On top of that, dries quickly and looks fantastic.. and nope, does not smell that bad.. And the fumes don't fly around..

Of course, this was my first experience with any sort of metallic color, so might be my opinion is not so "professional"...

I took my old test Stuka and painted one of it's wing, on top of a layer of normal regular acrylic paint, painted some months ago.
I did not polish it afterwards, just left it as it was to dry.

Then
Took one piece of Tamiya tape, attached it, pushed it hard on the surface... pulled it off..
Nothing happened... no paint was peeled off, nada.
Tried once more, though with the same tape piece, but again, no impact..
Then a piece of Blue-tak, pushed it very hard onto the wing, pulled it off, nothing happened.

The AK Xtreme paint is untouched, no visible impact, no scrathes, no glue remains!

This is a great paint !

So could indeed be that Phil Flory had received a bad example and I had received a good one...

PS. I painted another test object that I had primed with Vallejos primers... same there, no paint peeling off...
