Still sidelined... for no particular reason other than other projects taking up my time... I'll get around to finishing it up one of these days...

i also use a little of both aftermarket and scratch building.
i mostly make things from scratch because of the lack of hobby shops in my area.
i can order stuff on the net but i'm impatient, when something pops into my head i have to execute or i lose the idea. i build what i want the way i want or i don't build. plus it's already built in my head before i even buy a kit i already know what i am going to do.
to me it's a form of art and i appreciate the craftsmanship, and expression of something .

I've been a part of a few of those sites and I feel intimidated to post my builds in there because of how harsh some people can be. I love to post in here cause no one judges you because you did it differently than the norm. But at the same time you can get some great help and tips in a constructive way.

Yeah, there's some real A-holes in some of those Forums...

I've said it before, one of the reasons I will post and interact on this site versus the others I'm a member of, is the quality of the members here. I have yet to explain that a WIP is just that; a work in progress. I've posted WIP on other forums, just to have a rivet counter or two point out their perceived inaccuracies.

I'm all for helping, but not for belittling. This site makes me feel like being part of a fun family. No question has ever been answered in a rude, demeaning or sarcastic manner. No one has ever been "told" their build was "wrong".

Things like that go a long way in making people comfortable enough to share. That's how we all learn, by looking at what others have done and asking how they did it.

Agreed. We can be snarky at times, but still are a community of like minded nut-jobs. I am an assembler. That is simply where i'm at right now. for the life of me I've tried to weather, detail and otherwise dress up builds. I don't have the artist's eye for such things. That must have been located in my bad eye. That is what has frustrated me so and I've determined to stop worrying about it and just build the kit.
