Not sure exactly how it all went...but there were 300(?) of these kits at Nats.
(Not sure if Tamiya donated them to the clubs putting on the show, or what)
Anyway...everyone that entered models got a raffle ticket...if your # came up, you could buy one for $50.
ZM's F-4 was a hot seller, as well as Eduards P-51.

I purchased none of the above.

He didn’t give in to the dark side... :giggles:

You would think the raffle would be to win the Tamiya P-38 kit not to get it for $50. Either way, $50 isn’t too bad price wise.

So the real price is going to be much higher than $50? Pass.

Just have to wait til there is a sale or someone buys them and then it sits too long and then goes for less on flea bay.

Some of Tamiya’s pricing is  you would think they would lower it down to be competitive and then sell A LOT more. What gets me is a kit costing a lot and they don’t include masks for it... I was shocked to see my Dora Models Bf 109B came with masks along with photo etch too and it was a lower cost kit.

Well it’s not like my stash is going anywhere fast,so I don’t have to get it yesterday,I will wait and see what it could be had for, maybe even see if other versions are released.

But I really want one,so if there is no reduction,I will probably cave down the road.

Lucky Models has it on preorder for $51. Tamiya does include masks for the kit. There is no PE. One of the reasons Tamiya kits cost a bit more is because of their near perfect fit and finish. Very little need for putty.

LIke many, I remember vividly buying kits for .98 cents and the really pricey ones were 1.49. I have spent up to 100 dollars on a kit. . . I think that is what I spent on the 1961 edition of the Phantom Mustang...I know, I know.

I guess I am in the solitary minority in that I am not the least bit interested in this kit, Tamiya or not. I'd much rather see some classic 40s and 50s airliners be reissued, a good 1/32 C-46, a good Mallard and so on.

I want one. But having many other P-38s in my stash already, I can wait until I find it for a lower price... even if that takes a few years...

I found this image while looking up a certain P-38 equipped Fighter Group... it is supposedly the badge for one of the squadrons. I love it and simply had to share it here... :giggles:
