Just another random thought to back up what Owl just said.
I am finding that getting a "pretty good" kit might cost more, but that for me it saves money in the long run, because I can have a "pretty good model" by building OOB.

I'm not an "on the cheap guy", but, it is nice to have a few models that don't have $6 bombs and etc. hanging off of them, now and then.

I'm not putting the guys down that find a kit at a show for $3, add a new nose, new engines, resin cockpit, get fresh decals, and then pay for a weapons load to hang on it,,,,,,,,in fact, I've done that a few times, lol.

I get you, Rex. Same with modelling tools: sometimes if you buy cheap you find later to buy twice. Tamiya, for example, has lots of tools, but at a price. Until I used some of them! Now, I have some of their range and their durability and quality convinced me to spend more bucks and be happy in the long run.
