what usually works for me with gloss white is to use a light coat of flat white as a basecoat.
it seems to cover better . then I use the gloss , it takes less paint to achieve the desired finish .

The whole idea that the best kits out there are...wait for it...???...Tamiya! Especially funny when someone is asking about the best kit of a certain subject and someone immediately chimes in with "Tamiya", and turns out Tamiya doesn't even kit that particular subject. Tamiya does have its share of dog kits, no different from any other manufacturer.
